This job pays at a salary range of $95,015.90-$96,916.22 annually

A Lateral Police Officer in the Springfield Police Department is a law enforcement professional who, having prior full-time experience and training, joins the department to perform a range of policing duties.
- Conduct surveillance operations to monitor suspect activities.
- Conduct traffic stops, issue citations, and apprehend offenders
- Execute arrests, serve warrants, and detain individuals in accordance with legal procedures
- Engage with community members to build trust and address public safety concerns
- Respond to emergency calls, accidents, and incidents
- Testify in court regarding cases and investigations
- Stay updated on new laws, regulations, and departmental policies
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
- Graduation from a full-time certified police academy; or
- Graduation from a part-time certified police academy with the full-time transition course (for those with 3 years of experience within the last 5 years).
Other Requirements:
- Minimum 18 months of full-time police officer experience within the last 3 years, or
- Minimum 3 years of full-time police officer experience within the last 5 years.
- Training and experience must qualify or likely qualify the officer for certification in the State of Illinois upon request to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board
- U.S. citizenship
- Uncorrected visual sharpness of at least 20/40.
- Normal or mild color blindness, or mild anomalous trichromat (red-green deficiency)
- Ability to meet and comply with the department’s tattoo policy
- Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.
- Obtaining a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card within 12 months of hire
